66°North Helgafell — Built for Changing Conditions
There’s something about Iceland that naturally lends itself to trail running. The landscape is constantly shifting, the weather rarely settles, and the terrain asks for attention at every step. It’s not a place for predictable runs or controlled conditions, but rather for adapting as you move — adjusting to wind, rain, and exposure in real time.
That environment sits at the center of 66°North’s Helgafell collection, which returns in an updated form for Spring/Summer 2026. Originally introduced as a more niche fell running capsule, the collection now feels more complete, built around the idea of self-sufficient movement in unpredictable terrain rather than race-day performance alone.
The concept is simple, but effective: carry less, adapt more. Instead of relying on a vest or external storage, the pieces are designed with integrated pockets and lightweight construction, allowing runners to move more freely through varied terrain. Jackets are packable and easy to stow mid-run, while shorts and tights offer enough storage to handle the essentials without adding bulk.
What stands out is how the collection balances weight and durability. The materials are light enough for long efforts, but still capable of handling abrasive terrain and sudden weather shifts. Wind-resistant outer layers, breathable base fabrics and subtle weather protection features all contribute to a system that feels built for long days rather than short, high-intensity efforts.
There’s also a clear influence from Icelandic culture and environment in the design. The colors are muted but distinct, inspired by volcanic landscapes, glacial tones and coastal textures, while reflective elements reference the markers used along remote roads and trails. It gives the collection a visual identity that feels grounded in place, rather than purely performance-driven.
At a time where much of the trail running market is moving towards faster, lighter and more race-focused equipment, Helgafell takes a slightly different direction. It leans into adaptability, versatility and the idea of moving through terrain without overcomplicating what you carry.

It’s still early in its development, but with the updated 2026 collection, 66°North is positioning itself as more than just an outdoor brand entering trail running. Instead, it’s offering an alternative perspective — one that prioritizes long days, changing conditions and a more self-reliant approach to the mountains.
For runners who are drawn to that kind of experience, Helgafell is a collection worth paying attention to this season.
