Manuel Merillas and Sara Alonso won the SkyMasters final at Marató dels Dements on Saturday, November 7, securing a Spanish double in the 2026 Merrell Skyrunner World Series.

Merillas finished in 4:20:33, more than 12 minutes clear of Lucien Mermillon. Alonso won the women’s race in 5:30:38, completing the final step of her championship campaign.

Merillas overturns the standings

Merillas arrived third in the series, 31 points behind José Manuel Quispe and 16 behind Frédéric Tranchand. With double points available, victory offered a route to the title—but he also needed the results behind him to fall into place.

Early on, Tranchand remained close. At the Aín checkpoint, Merillas led the Frenchman by just 1:11. The final results told a different story: Mermillon took second in 4:32:41, with Marcos Villamuera third in 4:38:26.

Tranchand slipped to seventh in 4:44:50, while Quispe finished eighth in 4:51:59. That combination gave Merillas both the race victory and the overall championship, with a calculated total of 647 points.

Alonso finishes with another win

Alonso needed only a top-four finish to guarantee the women’s title. Instead, she won the final.

Elena Karanfiloska finished second in 5:40:17, 9:39 behind, while Greta García Morán completed the podium in 5:45:35.

The victory adds 200 points to Alonso’s pre-final total of 500, taking her to a calculated 700 points and confirming the championship outcome.

For both winners, Dements delivered the clearest possible finish to the season: a final-race victory alongside the series crown.

At publication, the official series ranking page had not yet incorporated the final. Championship totals above are calculated from the published pre-final standings and the SkyMasters scoring rules.
