VEJA Steps Onto the Trail With the Harpie

The French sneaker brand has launched its first dedicated trail-running shoe, combining a broad anatomical fit, Amazonian rubber and a completely new outsole.
VEJA has spent the past few years building a more credible performance-running range. Now the French brand is moving properly off-road with the Harpie Trail — its first shoe developed specifically for trail running.
Named after the harpy eagle, one of South America’s largest birds of prey, the Harpie is designed as a neutral and relatively lightweight option for mixed terrain. It weighs 275 grams in a men’s US 9 and has a 7 mm heel-to-toe drop.
A proper trail shoe, not a road conversion
The Harpie is built around VEJA’s new TerraGrip outsole. The rubber compound combines wild Amazonian rubber with strategically positioned lugs intended to provide traction on climbs, descents and changing surfaces.
Unlike the Condor 3 Offroad, which blurred the line between road and light trail, the Harpie has been developed as a dedicated trail model.
The midsole uses VEJA’s Rubberfoam construction, combining bio-based EVA with Amazonian rubber. VEJA describes the result as a balance of comfort, stability and energy return rather than an aggressively soft or maximal ride.
Recycled upper and an anatomical fit
The AeroShell upper is made entirely from recycled polyester. Its grid construction is designed to remain breathable, dry quickly and prevent small tears from spreading across the material.
VEJA has also given the Harpie a broader anatomical shape intended to accommodate the natural width of the foot. That could make it an interesting option for runners who find traditional performance shoes restrictive through the forefoot.
The shoe is produced in Brazil and continues VEJA’s use of Amazonian rubber and plant-based materials. The midsole contains 20 percent Amazonian rubber and 20 percent bio-based EVA, while the outsole contains 33 percent Amazonian rubber.

A different kind of trail debut
VEJA is entering an increasingly competitive part of the running market. The Harpie does not arrive with a carbon plate, oversized stack or claims of record-breaking speed. Instead, the brand is leaning on fit, material choices and a distinctive visual identity.
That makes the Harpie an unusual trail debut — and potentially one of the most interesting-looking new shoes of the season.
The real test will be whether TerraGrip can deliver the security required on wet and technical terrain. On paper, however, VEJA has made something far more convincing than a lifestyle sneaker dressed for the outdoors.
