On is introducing a new generation of its cushioned daily trainer with the Cloudsurfer 3, the first shoe to feature the brand’s newly developed Surreal superfoam.
The Cloudsurfer 3 combines the new foam with a redesigned version of On’s CloudTec Phase geometry. Rather than relying on the foam alone, the hollow Cloud elements are positioned to compress sequentially as the foot moves through each stride.
According to On’s internal computer simulations, the combination produces 15.5 percent more compression and reduces peak braking force by 9.9 percent compared with using the new superfoam without the CloudTec Phase structure. These remain brand-generated figures rather than results from independent testing.
The upper has also been updated with an engineered warp-knit construction designed to balance breathability, structure and a secure fit. The shoe weighs a stated 285 grams in a men’s US 8.5 and has an 8 mm heel-to-toe drop.
Despite the performance language surrounding Surreal, this is not positioned as an aggressive racing shoe. The Cloudsurfer 3 is designed as a versatile daily trainer for recovery runs, easy mileage and longer training sessions. The interesting part is what comes next: On says Surreal will play a growing role across its footwear range, making the Cloudsurfer 3 the first look at a potentially important new platform for the brand.
The Cloudsurfer 3 will receive a limited pre-launch through selected specialist running retailers on October 1. A wider global release through On’s website and branded stores is planned for early 2027.
The shoe will be priced at €170, $160 and £150.
